Execution of the “anarchists” resposible for the Haymarket Riots, c.1887, Chicago.
The gallows were located in the Cook County Jail which sat in the block bounded by Hubbard, Dearborn, Illinois and Clark. I’ve not been able to find definitive numbers as to how many total people were hung here, but it seems as though justice was served quite often.
Hangings were open to the public.
Mary, Mary Quite Contrary
Guys, I went a little nuts while at the Gethsemane Garden Center with @hockeybroad.
We both signed up to participate in the Peterson Garden Project. It’s sort of like a revival of the WWII era Victory Gardens in Chicago.
I was scoping out what plants to grow in my 4x6 plot. SO MANY CHOICES. I love herbs.
Seedlings bought:
- carrots (2)
- celery
- bunching onions
- french radishes (2)
- lemon thyme
- english thyme
- spicy oregano
- greek oregano
- various mesclun/lettuces (2)
- sage
And then I bought a little Jiffy greenhouse to start some seeds.
